AND DESIGN
Art Gallery
The study of the 3 grocery store items focused on the form of each object whether it was a box, cylindrical, or unique shape. Not only would the study of their overall shapes end up informing the final design but also their graphical elements for instance in particular the rose shape on the bottle cap would be highly influential in the final design. In the figure ground studies the cap was used in multiple cases because of its unique curvature design to study both plan and section form ideas which in the end informed the design. The project is organized in which you enter and move in a curving motion around the museum with the service areas recessed away from public access. The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels also informed the final design with the different uses of glass elements whether they were recessed, protruding, in-line with the building, or thickened. The cathedral also informed the exterior design with its archways and how they wrapped around the project. These elements can be observed within the museum design with the differing glass elements and the wall that wraps around the site. Attention to the site was pertinent in the design of the museum by informing the colors used on the building. The artwork chosen for this museum focuses on women in different art forms of which informed the museum colors as well. It also made the rose design of previous studies more pertinent to focus on for the end design of the museum. The views shown are to assess the main parts of the museums both entrances and galleries of which portray different light elements and curvatures within the museum of which were created by using the unique designs and details of the grocery store items. Some of these unique aspects are the way the light shines down from the ceiling due to the unique shapes of the roofs structure. As well as the petal like roof structure above the main gallery spaces.
